Application Procedure for International Medical Graduates (IMG’s) International medical graduates must have graduated from medical school no more than seven years ago if not currently engaged in active medical practice. J-1 visas are the normal status required for residency training. Applicants must have passed Step 1 on the first attempt and Step 2 in two attempts or less, including the English language and clinical skills assessment exam (CSA). Preference will be given to those who have passed all exams on the first attempt. Priority will be given to those with exam scores in the 85th percentile or above. Priority will be given to applicants who either practiced Psychiatry in their home country or who obtained a neuroscience-related graduate degree in this country. A reasonable amount of U.S. clinical experience in Psychiatry is preferred. The personal statement should be well written, demonstrate a command of written English, and provide information regarding the applicant’s interest in Psychiatry. Three letters of recommendation,not including the Dean's letter,should be submitted with the application. At least two of these letters should be from U.S. physicians. Some international medical graduates selected to interview may be asked to perform a brief, live psychiatric evaluation of a patient as part of the interview process.
