Mission Statement

Dr. Craig Rush, PhD, Vice-Chair for ResearchThe Department of Psychiatry at the University of Kentucky is committed to advancing an interdisciplinary research agenda that aims to better understand the etiology of mental illness and substance use disorders. Driven by pressing clinical needs in the Commonwealth, research in the Department of Psychiatry aims to identify and develop novel evidence-based treatments, prevention strategies and behavioral interventions. Through scholarship, we seek to expand the boundaries of knowledge in psychiatry and improve the quality of care to patients. Involving psychiatry residents and medical students in interdisciplinary research allows them to deliver the most effective, evidence-based treatments to improve the lives of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as well as impact public-health policy.
